Marci,
Potatoes (not sweet), tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, tomatillos, tamarios, pepinos, pimentos, ground cherries, garden huckleberry and naranjillas, paprika, cayenne, and Tabasco sauce are classified as nightshade foods. A particular group of substances in these foods, called alkaloids, can impact nerve-muscle function and digestive function in animals and humans, and may also be able to compromise joint function. Because the amount of alkaloids is very low in nightshade foods when compared with other nightshade plants, health problems from nightshade foods may only occur in individuals who are especially sensitive to these alkaloid substances.
I am obviously sensitive to alkaloids. My sensitivity presented itself in the form of debilitating joint pain after I injested large amounts of cayenne pepper this past summer when I did the lemonade "Master Cleanse". The alkaloid, solanine, that is in cayenne pepper cannot be properly detoxified in my body.
Your daughter, Cat, obviously has a sensitivity as well to the solanine in hot sauce (Tabasco) that has presented itself in the form of a rash. In my research into how nightshades can affect the body I have come across a multitude of cases where people have broken out in rashes as a result of eating nightshade foods.
The best advice is to avoid nightshades completely for at least six months. Most likely her rashes will disappear. And then, if she wants, she can slowly introduce hot sauces back into her diet and see how her body reacts.... But, it sounds like eating hot sauce every day is just asking for trouble.

My daughter, Cat, has been complaining of a rash on the outside of her cheeks that comes and goes, is like red flat spots, and she eats hot sauce all the time. All the time.

I was wondering what the cayenne/spices do?

Please enlighten me, on Karmic Nectar! (Mind, body, spirit for the Sweet Life ) - (I like that! :)
